About The Brick Church
Well..a lot of people ask us how this all started! We were just driving by really..minding our own business! Purchased in 2003, we started to renovate right away.Designed by owner Peter Weninger, it took three years to re-invent the interior.
The bones of the church were extraordinary! It hadn’t moved since the Scots erected it back in 1869. The finest masons and carpenters toiled. The 300 year old Douglas Fir beams transported from the west coast on the early days of the Trans Canada Railway span the building and tower impressively above.
In the early days, Manilla was a bustling hub! This church was just one of eleven. It was called the Brick Church back then because a fire burned down the wooden one. The silver steeple that crowned the top of the building could be seen 20 miles away but nasty hurricane Hazel blew it off. It was later found in a field.
Now it’s a beautiful space. Historical, arty, elegant, welcoming and serene……probably just like it was meant to be.
